Building a Test Bench Enclosure for Encapsulated Test Runs

A test bench enclosure seals the test specimen together with its noise source acoustically tight, so that the rest of the hall stays quiet. Test runs often generate higher levels than the entire surrounding production. The booth intercepts exactly these peaks before they spread through the plant.

sta Group plans, produces and installs such enclosures itself. It starts with a 3D scan of the test bench and its surroundings. From this comes a survey accurate to the millimetre that accounts for connections, media routing and operator access from the outset.

Every test bench is built differently. As special solutions we design the booth to match rollers, shafts, exhaust line and cooling, rather than forcing a standard size over it. This keeps every maintenance hatch reachable and every sensor accessible.

Production takes place in our own works, with elements up to 6 metres in length. You receive the complete test bench enclosure from a single source. One contact stays with you from the first survey to acceptance.

Noise Control for Test Benches in Continuous Full-Load Operation

Test benches rarely run briefly. Continuous runs over hours or days are the rule, often under full load and with changing speeds. Noise control for test benches must therefore not only contain loud peaks but also withstand permanently.

The wall structure carries the load. Multi-shell panels insulate the airborne sound, while heavy, decoupled frames take the structure-borne sound out of the foundation. Inside, an absorbing lining with sound absorbers for industry ensures that the sound does not build up. This clearly lowers the level outside, while the booth becomes quiet enough for measurement inside.

Vibration plays a part too. Sound-insulating a test bench means considering the excitation via floor and connections, not only the walls. Elastic mountings and flexible feed-throughs keep vibrations away from the surroundings.

Safely Removing Heat and Exhaust from the Test Booth

Sound is not the only problem at the test bench. Heat, exhaust gases and operating fluids build up in the booth as soon as ventilation is not planned in. A good sound-insulating test bench booth solves both at once.

Silencers in the supply and exhaust air keep the level low without throttling the air exchange. The exhaust is captured and safely led outside. This keeps the booth acoustically tight and thermally manageable.

Engine Test Bench Noise Control Against Levels Beyond 100 dB

An engine test bench quickly reaches values above 100 dB(A) in full-load operation. That is jackhammer level, right in the middle of the hall. Without encapsulation the sound transfers to neighbouring rooms, offices and adjacent workstations, partly carried on through the foundation.
